Plants for Duck Ponds

Plants for Duck Ponds

A collection of 10 native marginal plants suitable for planting in duck ponds.  This collection will take up 3 - 4m (10-13ft) of marginal shelves depending on density required, and is intended as an addition to existing pond planting as there are no oxygenators, deep water or floating plants included.

It is very important to provide protection for these plants by means of a cage of 25mm wire netting, 50cm high placed round each plant or group of plants to prevent them being destroyed by the ducks until the plants have reached maturity!  Some of the plants listed below can be quite vigorous so may be best planted in aquatic baskets.

We recommend you look at the following British Waterfowl Association information sheet on 'Plants for ponds and Pens' which you will find very useful.

The collection will consist of:

10 Marginal plants

The plants will be selected from our range of native plants and may include:

Purple loosestrife, Pendulous sedge, Cyperus sedge, Greater pond sedge, Sweet galingale, Hard rush, True bulrush, Reed sweet grass and Mares tail.

We will endeavour to supply as much variety as possible with a minimum of five different types of plant in each pack.

Plants will be supplied in 9cm pots.

This collection is available without planting baskets, with baskets only, or as a complete package including soil and aquatic gravel -please select  from "Collection options" box below.

Planting in baskets you would need to purchase approx 15 litres of soil and 1.75 litres of gravel.  If the baskets option is selected we will supply approx 50/50 1 and 2 litre baskets with the 2 litre for the taller/larger growing plants.
