Astrantia major ‘Gill Richardson Group’ is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial which grows up to 90cm tall. It sends up tall stems bearing umbels of tiny deep crimson flowers surrounded by dark tipped crimson flower bracts from June to August. The foliage is dark green and young leaves and stems have a purple blush and make excellent cut flowers.
Dead head regularly to encourage flowering and prevent self-seeding, and cut back to near the ground after it’s finished its first flowering to get a second flush. It is designated as an RHS Plants for Pollinators and is particularly favoured by bees. Provides a nice contrast to Astrantia major.
