Water lily (Nymphaea) ‘Rose Arey’ is a very free-flowering lily that produces beautiful large cup to stellate rich pink flowers with yellow centres.  Its strongly scented flowers smell of sweet aniseed and the blooms make fine cut flowers.  Like other lilies with odorata rhizomes it grows horizontally across the baskets so is best potted up into a wide basket to give it room to grow, and it will form a colony that will produce numerous blooms.  It was rated by Perry Slocum as one of the most beautiful lilies known.   The first new leaves in spring can sometimes have a tendency to be twisted but this is characteristic and not a sign of any problems with the plant.
