Floating water plantain (Luronium natans) is a rare British native pond plant which when grown in shallow water has floating oval leaves not dissimilar to Water hawthorn and prolific pretty yellow centred white flowers very similar to but larger than Water crowfoot in the summer. It can grow in deeper water up to 40cm if clear and there is little competition, when it will produce longer slender submerged leaves but no flowers. Also happy in slow moving water and is a good plant for smaller ponds.
