Hessian squares are made from natural fibres typically sourced from the Jute plant.  They can be used to line aquatic baskets to help retain the soil and reduce leakage into the pond.  Their open weave allows oxygen and nutrients to the roots so will not inhibit growth of the plants.

Please note they will not completely stop soil leakage, especially from clay-based soils which contain significant amounts of very fine particles.  They are useful if the aquatic baskets you are using have a coarse, as opposed to fine mesh: the manufacturers of our UK made Finofil aquatic baskets advise that hessian liners are not necessary, BUT if you use a sandy aquatic soil such as Westland we would strongly recommend you use them.

The size of the liner is 46cm x 46cm and will line baskets up 5 litres.  A 10 litre basket or the 8 litre contour basket would need 2 squares.
