Iris pseudacorus var. bastardii is a variant of the native Yellow flag iris.  It has pale yellow flowers, strong greyish green leaves and is vigorous but less invasive than the Yellow flag.  Flowers during Jun and July.  Propagate by division in Spring or Autumn or by seed collected from the seed pods in Autumn.  Good for bees and hoverflies looking for nectar. The tall leaves are valuable for dragonfly larvae climbing out of the water to pupate and the dense leaves give good coverage for frogs and toads and also visiting birds.  As with all irises the rhizomes are harmful if eaten.
