Water lily (Nymphaea) ‘Texas Dawn’ is a beautiful large lily with stellate mid-yellow flowers blushed pink to peach at the base and deep yellow centres. Its leaves are a rich dark green with pronounced purple variegation and the flowers have a lovely lemony fragrance. It is very free flowering and flowers into early autumn when most other lilies have given up, with flowers held above the water. The peach blush at the base of the petals is very subtle, especially on first day flowers, though it intensifies slightly with age through the season. Like some of the other Water lilies with mexicana heritage (the Coloradao, Barbara Dobbins, Chromatella, Joey Tomocik and Paul Hariot) it keeps it leaves longer than most other lilies, sometimes through to late November.
It received the International Waterlily and Water Gardening Society’s 1990 America award and as its name suggests was originally hybridised in Texas. Suitable for medium to large ponds.
